5pc Diamond Cut Carbide Burr Set: 3/8″ Head, 1/4″ Shank, USA Made
Double cut handles everyday metal. Diamond cut is what you pull out when the metal fights back. We hand-picked the five 3/8″ shapes that cover most hard-steel work, went with a diamond cut on every one and put them in a case that rides in the truck. At Drill Bit Warehouse we are just a BIT more twisted about carbide, and this set proves it.
Five shapes. One cut. Hard steel doesn’t stand a chance.

Know Your Shapes
- SB cylinder with end cut. Teeth on the side and on the end, so it cuts down as well as across. Use it for pockets, slots and facing off a surface.
- SC ball nose cylinder. The all-rounder. The rounded tip blends welds and fillets without leaving a step.
- SD ball. For hollows, coves and concave contours. Also great for cleaning up the inside of a weld joint.
- SF tree, radius end. Rounds edges and gets into inside radii a cylinder can’t reach.
- SG tree, pointed end. The detail tool. Gets into tight corners and acute angles, and chamfers holes and edges.
Why Diamond Cut
A double cut burr adds a set of left-hand flutes across the standard right-hand flutes to break up chips and cut down the pull. Diamond cut takes that further: the cross flutes are cut nearly as deep as the main flutes, so every tooth becomes a small pyramid. That changes how it cuts:
- Very small chips. It grinds hard steel into fine, almost powder-like chips instead of long, sharp slivers.
- Balanced, controlled cutting. Left-hand and right-hand cutting nearly cancel out, so the burr doesn’t grab or walk. That gives you precise, steady deburring.
- Bite in tough material. Diamond cut penetrates fast in heat-treated and tough alloy steels, where other cuts chatter and dull.
Diamond cut or double cut? On hardened, heat-treated and stainless steel, high-temp alloys and weld, reach for diamond cut. For general steel, cast iron and the smoothest finish on softer work, use double cut. A lot of shops keep both on the bench.
What It Cuts
- Hardened and heat-treated steel: where diamond cut does its best work.
- Tough alloy and tool steels: die repair, worn edges, hard spots.
- Stainless steel: small chips and controlled cutting help keep the heat down.
- High-temperature alloys: nickel and cobalt-based alloys. Run slower with light pressure.
- Weld beads and spatter: on carbon and stainless steel.
- Not for aluminum or plastics: soft material packs the fine teeth. Use our Alumi-Cut burrs instead.

Speed Guide
Every burr in this set has a 3/8″ head. Run too slow and the teeth chip. Run too fast and they wear out and overheat. Starting points:
| Material | 3/8″ Head RPM |
|---|---|
| Mild and alloy steel | 30,000 – 40,000 |
| Stainless, hardened steel, nickel and titanium alloys | 19,000 – 30,000 |
| Cast iron and castings | 15,000 – 40,000 |
Shop tips: Keep the burr moving with light, steady pressure and let the teeth do the work. Don’t bury more than about a third of the head in the work. On hardened material, start at the low end of the range. Always wear eye and face protection.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will these fit my die grinder?
Yes. All five have a 1/4″ shank, which fits standard 1/4″ collet die grinders, both air and electric.
What’s the difference between diamond cut and double cut?
Diamond cut has deeper cross flutes. That makes finer chips, balances the cutting action for more control, and penetrates better in hardened and heat-treated steel. Double cut is the all-purpose pick for general steel, cast iron and a smoother finish on softer work.
Can I use these on aluminum?
We don’t recommend it. Soft metals load up fine teeth fast. Use our Alumi-Cut burrs for aluminum, brass and plastics.
Why the shorter 1-3/4″ length?
Less overhang means less flex and less chatter, and that matters when you’re cutting hard material. It also fits better in tight spots. For deep reach, see our long reach burrs below.
